Logan's Playground is a program that provides free child watch services for clients while they attend HIV-related appointments. Founded in 2000, Logan's Playground is named in memory of Logan Shaver, the first pediatric patient in clinical trials at Southwest Cent who lost his battle with AIDS at the age of six in 1999.

Position Summary
Southwest Center is looking for individuals who will provide childcare services and related administrative duties as well as ensure a safe, supervised play environment for children while parents(s) and.or guardians(s) are on the premises.

Responsibilities:

  • Care for children while parent(s) and/or guardian(s) attend appointments in The Parsons Center for Health and Wellness.
  • Assist with administrative duties related to Logan's Playground including maintaining files and databases.
  • Ensure child safety in emergency and other non-routine situations (e.g., building evacuation drills).
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma or GED. Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Development a plus.
  2. Experience working with children of all ages.
  3. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
  4. Application and successful completion of fingerprint clearance card (Fees paid by Southwest Center)
  5. CPR/First Aid Certification
  6. Knowledge, skill and ability to provide crisis intervention service (e.g., children fighting)
  7. Knowledge of available community resources for consumer groups.
  8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, other employees, representatives from community resource groups, contract agencies and the general public.
  9. Strong written and verbal skills.
  10. Demonstrated ability to contribute to a close team and community working relationship.
  11. Ability to work and make appropriate decisions independently.

Time Commitment: Part-Time. Shifts include Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm. We are looking for candidates who can commit to this position for at least 6 months.

Our Mission is to serve individuals touched by HIV/AIDS through prevention, education, client-centered services and coordinated care in collaboration with community partners.

Description

The Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS is a 501(c3) non-profit organization working sound public health and evidence-based programing to provide HIV testing, outpatient medical care and wellness, behavioral health counseling, case management, nutrition and others social services to individuals living with or at high risk of exposure to HIV in Arizona and the greater Southwest.

SWHIV serves ~30,000 annually through its programs and services. With new strategic goals launching soon and many new initiatives broadening the mission to include social justice and integrated LGBTQ+ services on the horizon, SWHIV needs and welcomes the enthusiastic participation of its members on the Board of Directors.

Most of the people that SWHIV serves are based in the LGBTQ+ community and members of vulnerable populations: they are low income individuals who are socially and/or economically marginalized and have difficulty finding culturally sensitive medical care that meets their needs.

The Center’s vision is to eliminate infection and improve quality of life for communities touched by HIV/AIDS. To help fulfill this vision, SWHIV has signed and is committed to the United Nations’ UNAIDS 90-90-90 initiative with the goal of achieving the following targets by 2020:

-90% of people living with HIV diagnosed;

-90% of diagnosed people on antiretroviral treatment; and

-90% of people in treatment with fully suppressed viral load.
