Compassionate Heart and Hands

To become a hospice volunteer at Sutter Care at Home the greatest gift one can offer is their time, caring nature and willingness to be present. Training and ongoing support are provided to all volunteers, so experience is not required. Volunteers are trained to enhance the overall goal of meeting the physical, emotional, spiritual and practical needs of hospice patients and their families.

It's a great opportunity to serve while learning new skills and enhancing existing ones. Volunteers may stay with the patient to give the caregiver some time away or time to rest and they can be a caring companion and compassionate listener to both patients and families. While volunteers cannot provide clinical or personal care, they may be able to assist with routine tasks and errands.

Our requirements: Volunteers receive 18 hours of training. We also provide health clearance and a background check through Sutter Health. Volunteers must work closely with Volunteer Program Coordinator as members of the hospice team, attending monthly support meeting and visiting patients once a week.

For more information on application and upcoming training, please contact Volunteer Program Coordinator by phone (650) 685-2803 or E-mail: rahmane@sutterhealth.org
