OCTC SkillTrain exists to provide adult basic education services to the Daviess County community. Along with providing GED and college-prep instruction, SkillTrain also offers English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to over 200 non-native English-speaking adults in Owensboro each year. Most of the immigrants and refugees in our program arrive with limited English experience, and our classes provide them with the language skills needed to navigate life and work in the US.
ELL classroom assistants work alongside paid instructors to ensure all students get the support needed to gain real-world English language skills. No lesson planning or teaching experience is required! We do ask that all classroom assistants possess a desire to help, a love of learning, and a genuine enjoyment of people from around the world!
Community members who are interested in knowing more about SkillTrain’s programs and volunteer opportunities are welcome to join us for an information session at our center on the third Tuesday of each month at 9 am or 6 pm beginning on Tuesday, Aug 15, 2017.
If you’d like more information, please contact Lindsey Kafer at lindsey.kafer@kctcs.edu or 270.686.3781.
