ORGANIZATION: Reading Partners

Rise up for reading. Reading Partners believes that our communities do better when all students have access to high-quality learning opportunities. By providing one-on-one, individualized reading support to students who’ve been most impacted by systemic barriers, Reading Partners seeks to disrupt educational inequity and create a brighter future where all students have the critical reading skills needed to prepare them for academic, social, and civic success.

Volunteer just over an hour per week to empower a student through reading. Reading Partners is seeking volunteer tutors to work one-on-one with students through a new online tutoring platform, Reading Partners Connects. The Reading Partners Connects program pairs one student with one volunteer tutor to meet weekly in an online learning environment. No teaching experience required and anyone over the age of 14, residing in a proximal area to this region, can volunteer. Interested individuals 14-17 may email to inquire about opportunities. Flexible Monday-Thursday volunteer times between 9am and 5pm at various school sites.

Our students will inspire you. We provide volunteers with a structured curriculum, training, and ongoing support to help you and your student succeed.

About Reading Partners

Location:

National Office, 638 3rd Street, Oakland, CA 94607, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to help children become lifelong readers by empowering communities to provide individualized instruction with measurable results.

Description

Reading Partners is a national education nonprofit that partners with students, their families, schools, and communities to provide students with individualized literacy support and the foundational skills they need to read at grade level by fourth grade. We do this by training community volunteers to deliver one-on-one, literacy lessons, using our structured and easy to follow, evidence-based curriculum. Volunteer tutoring happens in-person via our Reading Partners Traditional program and virtually via our Reading Partners Connects program. Programming varies by region. We currently serve twelve regions, nationwide: Los Angeles, Silicon Valley, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, Denver, North Texas, Tulsa, Twin Cities, South Carolina, Washington DC, Baltimore, and New York.
