We need volunteers for many trips throughout 2024 and 2025. Some of the exciting trips we need chaperones for are: Disneyland, Sea World, Cruises, Dude Ranches, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Knott's Berry Farm, and many, many more! These are overnight trips of 3 to 5 days.

NEW DIRECTIONS for people with disabilities, inc. (New Directions Travel) is looking for chaperones to support and assist adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) on escorted group vacations throughout the year. Experience with people with IDD preferred, but not required. New Directions Travel is based in Santa Barbara, but we need chaperones from all over California and neighboring states.

Requirements include having a respect for people with disabilities, a love for travel, professional appearance and pleasant disposition, good communication skills, accurate attention to detail, able to drive, good health with ability to lift 50 pounds, strong stamina, and having a top-notch attitude.

Further requirements will include: CPR/First aid certification, and criminal (police fingerprint) clearance, reference and background checks.

All travel related expenses are paid for volunteers by New Directions.

Description

New Directions for people with disabilities, inc. (New Directions Travel) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization providing local, national, and international travel vacations and holiday programs for adults and seniors who have brain impairments such as mild to moderate developmental and/or intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome and autism. Since 1985, we have taken over 20,000 people with special needs on tours all over the world.
- These profoundly enriching educational travel opportunities expand experiential learning and dramatically enhance the self-esteem of every traveler. Our programs open whole new worlds of understanding for both the participants and the general population.
-Through these programs, people with disabilities are increasingly understood, appreciated and accepted as important and contributing members of our world.
