Economic Development - Graduate Intern
The City of Sacramento Department of Economic Development has developed an internship program to provide graduate students with an opportunity to learn more about public service and economic development and to develop their professional skills. Unpaid interns will assist senior staff with city initiatives and work projects that will help them gain a greater understanding of how local government functions. 15-30 hours per week (flexible).
Potential Intern Projects:
Work projects will primarily revolve around revitalization and economic development in economically- challenged communities. Examples of projects and duties include:
* Support the Sacramento Employment and Economic Development (SEED Corp.)
* Research Community & Economic Development Corporation best practices
* Analyze federal and state legislation
* Outreach to community and business leaders
* Research private and public funding and financing opportunities
* Grant proposal development
* Document development
* Partnership development
* Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
* Must have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize in a changing environment
* Must have excellent interpersonal skills and follow-up skills
* Proactive problem prevention and issue resolution leadership ability
* Leadership potential
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, PowerPoint, and Outlook required
* Ability to learn other software programs
* Strong verbal and written communication skills required
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Duration:
* Summer or Semester with the potential for extension
