ORGANIZATION: NOVA Pride

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

NOVA Pride’s festival will be held on October 1 at Bull Run Special Events Center in Centreville, VA. This year, we are creating a committee to help with the planning. We will create different volunteer groups that will work with a designated section leads to help make this year’s festival a great success.

Team Lead:

As a team-lead you will work closely with a NOVA Pride board member to ensure that your festival section is a huge success. Team leads will manage the other committee members, plan regular meetings between now and the festival, help recruit committee members and volunteers for day-of the festival, help solicit monetary and in-kind donations, and recruit relevant vendors for your section. Attendance the day before and the day of the festival are required.

Committees will be the following:

Fundraising Committee:

Reach out to potential sponsors to secure sponsorships for the 2017 NOVA Pride Festival. A training on how to talk about the organization and festival is required.

Vendor Procurement:

Reach out via phone calls and email to potential vendors of all kinds to participate in the festival.

Follow up with potential vendors and when they agree to participate, guide them through the sign-up process.

A training on how to talk about the organization and festival is required.

Family and Youth committee:

The Northern VA LGBTQ+ community is full of families and youth that look forward to the festival every year and we like to make sure we have a special area with family and youth-friendly activities. We need help brainstorming activities, procuring funds to pay for the activities, procuring businesses who would like to donate their services, and solicit vendors geared toward families and youth

Paw Pride Dog Park committee:

Because the festival event space is so large, dogs are welcome to roam the grounds on-leash with their owners. Additionally, NOVA Pride is able to offer a large dedicated off-leash dog park where the dogs can run free and play. To offer this, we need help in procuring funds to pay for fencing and supplies, procuring animal-based vendors and rescue organizations, and soliciting prize donations -- because this year, we would like to hold contests and are looking for ideas (think pet parade and best pride-dressed, if weather permits)

Entertainment committee:

Work with our entertainment director to help secure musical talent for the entirety of the festival and after-party, procure sponsors for the stage, help develop our drag queen show, assist in developing the run of show for the day of the festival

Health and Wellness committee:

At our festival, we strive to provide relevant information on health and wellness services relevant to the LGBTQ+ community and friendly businesses and providers. In this committee, you will solicit health-focused vendors willing to provide medical testing, health and wellness resources, solicit LGBTQ health and wellness experts willing to lead seminars and workshops on LGBTQ+ topics, and procure sponsors for this section.

Communications Committee:

Work on social media, press releases, and reaching out to media outlets that will help promote the festival

VIP section committee:

This year we would like to provide a VIP experience for attendees willing to purchase tickets. Since this is new, we need help developing the concept, finding sponsors, and creating campaigns to sell tickets.

Lifestyle/Retail Committee:

Solicit relevant vendors who are selling products or providing services to the LGBTQ+ community that would enhance their daily lives. Work to secure a sponsor for this section.

All committee members are highly encouraged to attend the festival- but it is not required.

Mission Statement

Cultivate and grow a coalition to educate, advocate, and celebrate in service to LGBTQ+ Northern Virginians and its’ straight allies.

Description

Northern Virginia has a huge and steadily growing LGBTQ+ population. Within this area, we realized there is a need for recognition and local resources to help grow an LGBTQ+ community that is otherwise distanced from the metro DC area. It is this need for a community that fuels our mission to unite county-based organizations, charities, social groups, elected leadership and LGBTQ+ individuals at large to truly form a sense of community, and empower those within it to thrive in an accepting, diverse, and positive environment.
