LifeLong Medical Care provides high-quality health and social services to underserved people of all ages; creates models of care for the elderly, people with disabilities and families; and advocates for continuous improvements in the health of our communities. The TRUST Health Center in particular is a partnership with Alameda County and LifeLong Medical Care set-up to serve exclusively homeless individuals in Alameda County on General Assistance, by providing integrated Medical, Mental Health, and Case Management services under one roof. TRUST is a unique model of care pioneering what a 'safety net’ clinic is and should be. Our mission to bring tailored services to lift the health and well-being of homeless individuals in our community through community referrals, partnerships, and one-on-one care.
LifeLong Medical Care - TRUST Health Center (LLMC-TRUST) is looking for driven and dedicated volunteers who are committed to improving patients' overall health and well-being. Volunteers are ideally interested in pursuing medicine, mental health, or social work in the safety net/Public Health environment or interested in health disparities. All of our opportunities are currently centered on patient interaction and assistance, however, there are ample opportunities to investigate quality improvement/research depending on interests and experience of interested volunteers. Below are main duties of volunteers currently available at TRUST, the clinic is an environment that emphasizes innovation and health exploration and thus is a flexible position, moldable to potential volunteers interests and talents.
Main Duties:
Accompany patients in getting to outside specialist medical appointments
Assist with procuring donations and organizing donations received at TRUST
Get involved with day-to-day actives of clinic, assist w/health groups, and attend meetings in relation to volunteer’s interests.
Attend at least one 'case conference meeting’ (1hour) per quarter to continue education on issues faced by homeless populations both currently and historically.
Attending any necessary trainings to become a full-fledged volunteer at LifeLong Medical Care
Capacity building, improving our resources in the community
Quality Improvment: plan and participate in Plan Do Study Act (PSDA) cycles to drive health innovation at the clinics
Opportunities:
Shadow Medical and/or Mental health providers as interested or able
Investigate health in a public health/safety net environment
Receive weekly Supervision from Clinic staff member to tailor experience to individual
Attend trainings and meetings of interest to volunteer
Ideal Candidate:
Someone interested in pursuing a career in Medicine, Public Health, Social Work, and/or Mental Health services as a career
Interest in Capacity building of current program and volunteer services
Compassion and experiencing working for mentally ill and homeless individuals
Strong communication and Interpersonal skills
Time Commitment Requirement:
- Minimum of 8 hours per week, preferably one 8 hour shift
- Minimum 3 months
- Monthly team meeting/training and weeklysupervision available w/Staff member.
- Help to recruit other volunteers
