WE'RE WELL INTO THE SCHOOL YEAR, BUT IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO BEGIN SERVING AS A READING MENTOR! Davis Co. Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is partnering with elementary schools throughout the county to help place "Volunteer Grandparent" Reading Mentors for the 2016-2017 school year. You can volunteer 1 or 2 days per week for as little as 1-2 hours. You will help children who are struggling to read at their grade level by providing one on one listening, working with sight words, and helping to introduce them to the wonder and delights of books.

Davis School District and Charter schools all throughout the county have established Reading Mentoring Programs. We make it easier for volunteers who are age 55 or greater to participate by providing benefits for your volunteer service. By becoming a member of RSVP, you can be reimbursed for your travel mileage to and from the school, up to 200 miles per month. In addition, we provide supplemntal insurance to cover you while you are volunteering.

If there is a school near you, or perhaps one that your grandchildren attend where you would like to volunteer, just let us know. We would love to add that school to our list of 20+ volunteer elementary school stations and will meet with the pricipal to try to get it launched as an RSVP station.

We are now taking enrollments as "Volunteer Grandparent" reading mentors for the last half of the 2016-2017 school year. Reading programs have just started so IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO VOLUNTEER! Get signed up today.

As an age 55+ RSVP member, you have the power to make a BIG IMPACT. Help a child discover the joy of reading and change a life!
