Active Military and Veteran Volunteers Needed to Visit Hospice Patients

Veterans and active duty military members are needed to serve as volunteers with our hospice patients, particularly those who are veterans. Optum Palliative & Hospice Care is a partner in the We Honor Veterans program of the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO). This program serves to educate staff, volunteers and the community about the special issues of veterans at end of life. The We Honor Veteran program also partners with the local hospice to support us in our quest to serve the unique needs of our veteran patients.

Veterans and active duty volunteers have a unique perspective gained from their military experience, and as such, they are able to provide understanding and camaraderie to our veteran patients

Optum is a community-based hospice - as part of our team you will travel to skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, and/or private homes throughout northern Virginia. Assignments will be kept close to your home or work and hours are flexible, based on your availability. We simply ask for a commitment an hour or two a week for at least one year. A background check, drug screen, TB test and attendance at orientation are required and provided.
