The Orange County Health Care Agency (HCA) is a regional provider, charged with protecting and promoting individual, family and community health through coordination of public and private sector resources. Many of HCA's services are preventive in nature and therefore are not readily apparent to the public. Examples of services include food protection, hazardous waste regulation, water quality monitoring and pollution prevention, mental health services, alcohol and drug abuse services, preventive health services for the aging, healthcare for incarcerated individuals, communicable disease control, child health and disability program, immunizations, public health field nursing and public health clinics.
The HCA Communications division supports, coordinates and promotes effective communication in presenting the strengths of the organization and its employees in an accurate and timely manner in print and digital materials.
Intern Duties/Responsibilities:
Interns will work with staff to review and organize the agency’s extensive digital photo library. In addition, interns will drive to off-site HCA facilities such as clinics and laboratories to photograph locations that will be included in the digital photo library. Access to a personal vehicle during the work day is required.
Educational Requirements:
The internship is best suited for college students or recent college graduates who have completed coursework in communications, photography, digital media or related fields or have acquired skills/experience in these areas through personal or professional endeavors. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
Skills, Training or Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will have experience in photography and in editing and preparing images for use as digital content. Experience in or knowledge of cataloging and organizing a digital photo library is also required.
Time Commitment:
Minimum 10 - 15 hours per week for 6 - 8 weeks. Flexible schedules are available between the hours of 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday. Applicants able to schedule the maximum hours/duration listed for the internship typically gain a more in-depth experience.
Benefits Available to Intern:
Although this is an unpaid internship that does not lead to paid employment, students and recent graduates are offered an excellent opportunity to:
- Build resumes and work history
- Explore career options
- Apply skills and knowledge to the workplace
- Fulfill college/university internship requirements
- Network in their fields of interest with professionals who are dedicated to making a positive difference in Orange County
How to Apply:
Please e-mail a resume, cover letter and unofficial transcript to Jane.Dawson@ocgov.com. The cover letter is an opportunity for students to describe career and academic goals, to elaborate upon personal and academic accomplishments, to share areas of interest that relate to the internship and to identify what type of internship experience they are seeking. Please include GPA, preferred start and end dates for the internship, number of hours that can be scheduled on a weekly basis and days/timeframes available to schedule internship hours.
