About

LAYC’sHousing programs provide transitional living services for youth 18-24 years old who are homeless or experiencing unstable housing in the DC area. The program seeks two administrative volunteers to help improve language access via documents for youth and database systems. Ideal volunteers will be highly skilled individuals with flexible hours to work remotely. In addition, ideal volunteers must work independently on assigned tasks via their own computer or laptop and communicate regularly with staff contacts via email or phone. Creative volunteers with strong writing and communications skills are strongly preferred.

  • Document translator: A volunteer will support the team in translating a number of programmatic documents from English to Spanish, ensuring that materials are clear and accurate. Documents include intake and release forms, notifications and policies, youth welcome manual, etc. Volunteer must be able to translate technical documents in a relevant manner to ensure language access for Spanish-speaking youth. Strong English-Spanish bilingual (preferred fluent) writing and translating skills are required. Volunteers are encouraged to complete assignments remotely with occasional in-person meetings with staff.
  • Database developer: A volunteer will support the team in creating a new database using Microsoft Access to help accurately collect relevant data from across various housing programs. Volunteers must be familiar with Microsoft Access and comfortable creating and editing new systems. Volunteer must be able to complete assignments independently following guidance provided by collaborating with the housing team to identify their data collection needs and concerns. Volunteers are encouraged to complete assignments remotely with occasional in-person meetings with staff.

Interested volunteers should submit their current resume and a brief paragraph expressing their interest and skills. Eligible volunteers will be invited for a brief interview with program staff.
