The mighty Tax Team seeks 2 AmeriCorps to take leadership in the fight against poverty by increasing financial stability in King County. As a Financial Empowerment AmeriCorps, you will be an integral member of the United Way Free Tax Preparation Campaign, the largest anti-poverty program in Washington State. In 2016, the program operated 24 locations and leveraged the skills and talents of 900 volunteers to prepare 21,750 tax returns. This secured $29.1 million in refunds for low income families and individuals. As an AmeriCorps member, you will be involved with leading the large scale volunteer recruitment efforts, developing outreach strategies through community partnerships, presenting to stakeholders on key issue areas, and providing on the ground leadership at service locations. You will also learn tax law (through the lens of economic justice), city and regional public benefits, and gain a broader understanding of the non-profit landscape in King County.
