Help care for the Laguna and restore critical wildlife habitat- become a Laguna Steward! Each month we offer a different opportunity to take part in ensuring a brighter future for the Laguna.
Date: Once a month, usually the second or third Saturday of the month.
Time: start time 9:00am, end time 12:00pm
Location: Details of the site location announced 1-2 weeks in advance of the workday (various sites along the Laguna in Santa Rosa, Sebastopol, Rohnert Park and Cotati)
Required Experience & Qualifications: No experience needed. Training is provided. Children are welcome but must be able to participate. Please supervise your child at all times.
Only heavy rain cancels. You can come once or multiple times. No RSVP is required, unless you are bringing a group of 4 or more people. Wear clothes that can get dirty. Snacks and tools are provided but please bring water, gloves and friends!

Description
Work in the classroom under the direction of the teacher helping students with reading and/or math. This requires a commitment of 1 hr./wk for a school semester. Volunteers must be fingerprinted.
The Literacy Connection Academic Mentor program has just completed 12 years of recruiting, training, and preparing volunteers to go into the classrooms of Sonoma County K-12 schools. This year 250 volunteers worked in 30 different schools helping students in the regular classroom and in the after-school programs. One-on-one help is sometimes the only way that students who are also learning English as a second language can do their work. Sometimes the student has experienced so much failure in his school life that he is reluctant to participate in class activities. He has lost self esteem. Volunteer helpers give that student a no-risk opportunity to experience success - even one word at a time.
