Understanding Disabilities, Inc. (UD) is a non-profit organization that provides disability awareness education in the Reading, Massachusetts public schools. For over 30 years, UD has provided information about a range of disabilities through school and community programming.

UD has an extraordinary team of volunteers who help teach classes and run the organization.

We are looking for help with:

  • Board Development- People to help us lay out the steps and help us to move to a governing board. Since our organization was founded in 1984 it has been run with a management board only. We are looking to become a more business focused organization.
  • Marketing, Communications, PR
  • Fundraising
  • Donor Development

Understanding Disabilities provides disability awareness programming in the Reading Public Schools, to help children see beyond people's disabilities and focus on the ways that we are all the same inside.

Description

Understanding Disabilities, Inc., is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that serves all students in the Reading public schools and the Reading community at large. Our mission is to educate children about disabilities to help them see beyond people's disabilities and to focus on the ways we are all the same inside.

Celebrating 31 years in the schools, we highlight all that people with disabilities can do and we promote a culture of inclusion and respect. Our curriculum provides information about a range of physical, sensory, and developmental disabilities to improve students’ school, social, and learning experiences. All students benefit from UD programming, but none more than those with disabilities.
