Dating back to the 1940s, The American Ex-Prisoners of War has collected and maintained a trove of documents, photographs, records, data and artwork that tell the story of captivity and internment of Americans - military and civilian - through all the conflicts of the 20th/21st century to date.
Our collection is of continuing interest to students, scholars, professional researchers and historians and schools and educational organizations with an interest in the circumstances, treatment, behavior and experiences of POW captives and the long- and short-term effects of their internments.
Until now AXPOW’s archives were available to the public to in only limited ways and in one location (Arlington TX) and by special arrangement. Our ability to catalog our collection, assure proper handling for future preservation, and make materials widely accessible has long been hampered by cost constraints. Your support can help assure that the AXPOW collection will not be lost to posterity and will be properly maintained and archived and available to the largest possible numbers of interested parties, including students, schools, family members and friends of POWs and professional researchers.
