It's flexible! We'll work with your schedule.

This is a Virtual Opportunity, with no fixed address.

The Audio-Reader Network, an audio information service for people with vision loss and other issues that prevent them from reading standard print, is recruiting readers to record the Sprinfield News-Leader from their homes. These recordings would be distributed by Audio-Reader through our Telephone Reader system. Volunteers from the Springfield, MO, area are preferred. Those who meet the requirements will be assigned to a specific day of reading and focus their attention on local news articles. We do not yet have a physical location in Springfield, so reading must be done remotely. You will need to access your own print copy of the newspaper, or have the ability to read the online edition with our log-in.

All volunteers must take and pass an audition, which consists of a 100 word pronunciation test and a series of reading samples. Your reading will be evaluated for smoothness, inflection, pronunciation, enunciation and voice quality. Once a pool of readers has been selected, Audio-Reader staff will schedule a training and orientation day for all volunteers.

For more information about Audio-Reader, visit our website at www.reader.ku.edu. Auditions may be scheduled by emailing Coordinator of Volunteers Jennifer Nigro at jnigro@ku.edu or calling (785) 864-4604.
