The Audio-Reader Network, an audio information service for people with vision loss and other issues that prevent them from reading standard print, is recruiting readers to record the Springfield News-Leader and other area newspapers. Home and in-studio assignments (MCB Thrift Store) available. Those who meet the requirements will be assigned to a specific day of reading or the substitute reader list and focus their attention on local news articles. For home assignments, you will need to access your own print copy of the newspaper, or have the ability to read the online edition with our log-in.

All volunteers must take and pass an audition, which consists of a 100 word pronunciation test and a series of reading samples. Your reading will be evaluated for smoothness, inflection, pronunciation, enunciation and voice quality.

For more information about Audio-Reader, visit our website at www.reader.ku.edu. Those who want to schedule an audition should fill out our volunteer application at www.reader.ku.edu/volunteer-application, or contact Coordinator of Volunteers Jennifer Nigro at jnigro@ku.edu or (785) 864-4604.
