VOC’s Cairn Youth Program is an outdoor stewardship program for high school students. The 9-month program engages youth in hands-on stewardship projects, environmental learning, and leadership development. Approximately 35 students participate each year. Cairn students participate in monthly events, ranging from environmental challenges such as trail building or fire restoration, to overnight outdoor adventures. They also plan, organize, and run their own stewardship project as a culminating challenge.
If you enjoy working with youth and have a passion for helping to inspire the next generation of outdoor stewardship leaders, mentoring Cairn students is a fun and rewarding leadership position with VOC!
As a Cairn Youth Mentor, you will serve as a role model for the students. You will lead environmental education activities and discussions, and help facilitate monthly events and outdoor leadership experiences. You may be asked to help organize field trips, service learning excursions, and transportation. You will be provided with environmental education curriculum and general guidance from VOC staff throughout the program.
