Southwest Detroit Community Benefits Coalition Community Truck Survey - BE A VOLUNTEER What: Training for Volunteer Truck Watchers When: August 1st / 6:00pm - 7:30pm
Where: Clark Park rec center
WHY? Truck traffic is increasing in SW - with new businesses and the new bridge to Canada coming. The Community Benefits Coalition wants to reduce the negative impacts that trucks will have on families and the neighborhood. Diesel emissions from trucks are harmful to health, and trucks on residential streets and near schools affect safety and overall quality of life. We’re counting trucks so we can advocate for better truck routes, programs to reduce negative impacts, and enforcement.
HOW will the survey be done? Volunteers will count trucks for a 2 hour shift over two days in early August at key locations in Delray/SW. We count trucks by keeping track with a simple tally sheet. Attend the brief volunteer training to learn how. Volunteers will count trucks in teams of two - so sign up with a friend or neighbor! We need you!
WHERE will we survey? where truck traffic will increase with the new bridge We will be counting trucks at 4 target locations in Southwest Detroit where truck traffic may be increasing after the new Gordie Howe International Bridge to Canada is built. Sites include Clark Park/Maybury Elementary, Livernois & Dragoon, Springwells/Fort. We can also provide tracking forms for you to count from your own front porch, business, school or church to for more data on truck traffic in SW.
WHEN? Truck Survey dates will be scheduled on a Wednesday & Thursday in early August. Exact dates will be final soon - as soon as we reach the needed 120 volunteers!
