It takes volunteers like you to keep our lakes clean! Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation has a dedicated network of Covekeeper volunteers from Lake Hickory down the Catawba River to Lake Wateree who take an active role in making sure the lakes are protected and maintained.

Covekeepers are responsible for patrolling a designated area of the lake to look for any pollution, garbage, or unusual activity on the lake. Covekeepers also attend meeting, usually monthly, and plan and execute an annual comprehensive cleanup of the lake to collect any trash that people may have left behind. You would be an integral part in making the lake clean and safe for people to swim, fish, kayak, and engage in other fun activities on the water throughout the year.

We are continuously recruiting Covekeepers for Lake James, Lake Hickory, Lake Norman, Mountain Island Lake, Lake Wylie, and Lake Wateree.

If you want to take on an even larger role, consider becoming the Lakekeeper!

S/he is the lead Covekeeper for the lake, and point person for the Covekeepers and Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation. S/he also takes the lead on planning events and monthly meetings for the Covekeepers. We are currently searching for Lakekeepers for Lake Wateree and Lake James.

Both the Covekeeper and Lakekeeper volunteer roles are ongoing and long-term, and require quite a bit of commitment. But it is also rewarding to know that your efforts have kept the lake clean and safe for not only human use, but the wildlife who live in it every day.

Thank you for considering being a volunteer for Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation!
