Help Desk Representative

ORGANIZATION: Skyline Urban Ministry

Every day at Skyline there are patrons who ask staff/volunteers for assistance with things that our agency doesn't offer. From dental to financial help, there are a myriad of issues that our patrons face which Skyline is not equipped to assuage. However, it is not our organization's goals to turn anyone away without hope.

Therefore we are working on developing a position in which someone compassionate and gentle can have one-on-one conversations with people who are seeking these resources, in order to refer them to outside programs they could utilize. Someone working at the Help Desk would have to be patient and understanding. Experience in a complimentary field, such as counseling or social work would be especially appreciated, as well as someone who is bilingual.

However we would be overjoyed to have anyone willing to work closely with people who are looking for opportunities to improve their lives and those of their families. The work would involve researching various agencies/programs, finding out their requirements and making the most helpful resources available to Skyline's patrons. This would be an ongoing process, in which the volunteer confirms certain organizations as legitimate and operational, and works with staff to compile a list of places which have successfully aided those in need of support.

Hours are somewhat flexible and can be determined depending on availability. Office hours at Skyline start around 9 and people request help throughout the day. Thursdays and Fridays especially needed.
