ORGANIZATION: Feeding America San Bernardino

CalFresh, formerly known as the Food Stamp program, is a federally funded supplemental nutrition assistance program and a critical tool in helping us fight against hunger. In Riverside County, only about half of people who are eligible for CalFresh participate in the program.

If you share our passion of alleviating hunger in our communities, if you are interested in food security, nutrition, and community development then Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino is looking for you to join our CalFresh outreach efforts. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers that will work directly with the community to increase access to healthier food options for low income households including children and seniors. Your work will directly impact families in need and you will gain real life hands on service experience.

As a volunteer you will help in outreach and conduct pre-screenings at Food Pantries, Senior Food Share sites, Elementary schools and community events such as Health Fairs. You will provide community members with a brief explanation of the CalFresh program, discuss eligibility guidelines, dispel common myths about CalFresh participation, gather pre-screening contact information, and/or make follow-up calls to interested participants.

We are looking for enthuiastic, outgoing, "people person" type of individuals, who love helping others and would like to help us fight hunger in our community. We will equip you with the knowledge and ongoing support to enable you to be a great resource to the community.

Training and Orientation takes place at Feeding America Riverside | San Bernardino in Riverside, CA and is required.

*Please also note, the nature of our work requires travel to various sites within our service area. Volunteers must have a personal vehicle.
