Every Friday Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa is proud to offer bags of shelf stable food to our Club members and their families to take home. The bags consist of 2 entrees, 1 can of vegetables, 1 can of fruit, a breakfast item and snacks. We need help distributing these bags to our families and recording what is taken. This is a fun and easy task where you get to know lots of awesome kids and play a great role in keeping them healthy and fed. The shift is from 3-5:30 p.m. on Fridays at our Ellis I. Levitt Club located at Carver Elementary, 705 E University Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50316. We hope to have a handful of volunteers that can rotate weeks and be a familiar face to our families. Please let us know if you are interested.

Mission Statement

Description

For the past 50 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa has provided kids and teens with research-based programs that focus on education, healthy lifestyles, and character and leadership development. Today, we serve more than 2,000 central Iowa youth ages 5-18 from 44 local schools each year (500 kids a day). We offer hands-on educational and experiential enrichment every day after school, as well as all-day programming during the summer and other breaks. The Club is a safe setting where youth can participate in both supervised and self-directed activities designed to give them the developmental assets necessary in becoming successful adults. Homework help, leadership opportunities, computer access, and a plethora of age-appropriate activities are offered at Club every day. Our youth development strategy is to instill a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging, and influence in the young people we serve. Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa offers programs in five core areas:

  • Education & Career Development
  • Character & Leadership Development
  • Health & Life Skills
  • The Arts
  • Sports, Fitness & Recreation
