Second Harvest Foodbank’s Diabetes Wellness Program is seeking a program intern for the 2016 fall semester - specific dates can be determined by the intern and the program coordinator. The internship will be 5-10 hours/week during normal business hours and can be customized around class schedules.

The Diabetes Wellness Program is a 3-year pilot program in which food insecure people with diabetes will learn to better control their condition through educational workshops, nutrition information, healthy recipes, and boxes of diabetes-appropriate food.

We are looking for someone with strong communication skills, keen attention to detail, and an interest in working with diverse populations. The intern will have the opportunity to interact one-on-one with community members and coordinate various aspects of a health education program. Duties will include:

• Conducting brief phone interviews with potential participants who have expressed interest in the program to screen for eligibility and complete enrollment
• Preparing enrollment materials for all new program participants
• Conducting monthly reminder calls/emails/texts for introductory workshops and food box pick-ups
• Designing monthly factsheets on various topics related to diabetes management based on materials previously created by Feeding America
• Preparing materials for monthly introductory workshops
• Attending and providing support for two introductory workshops during the first week of each month, as schedule permits
• Conducting data entry and simple analysis for monthly evaluation surveys
• Assisting in the assembly 100+ monthly food boxes along with a team of food bank volunteers
• Other duties to be assigned as needed
