Alamo Area Council of Governments/Area Agencies on Aging

If you have been interested in the past or have been looking for a way to serve in your community, we would like to share this opportunity to volunteer in the Alamo Ombudsman Program!

Volunteer Ombudsmen are advocates for residents in long-term care (LTC) communities who visit residents, listen to their concerns, and advocate on their behalf. Volunteer Ombudsmen also educate residents, families, and staff on protecting the health, safety, and rights of residents. Volunteer visits are flexible, i.e. a few hours each month or 1 hour twice a month.

Volunteers will complete a free 36-hour training course with online classroom training sessions, self-study within the 2 month internship.

We have upcoming trainings starting soon, so if you would like to learn more about becoming a volunteer and our program requirements, please contact me.

We look forward to hearing from you very soon!

Mission Statement

The agency is dedicated to building a community that supports older residents and allows them to age in place with dignity, security, and enhanced quality of life. The range of services provided includes congregate meals, home-delivered meals, benefits counseling, care coordination, legal assistance, long-term care Ombudsman nutrition and counseling and training, caregiver support, and transportation services.

Our organization is providing free, one-on-one assistance to people with Medicare and their families via telephone and face-to-face sessions, public education presentations and other programs. Through the CMS MedicareRx Volunteer Initiative, volunteers at our organization will be given the opportunity to work directly with people with Medicare to help them understand their prescription drug plan options and join a plan that will best suit their prescription drug needs if they choose.
