YWCA GirlsFirst is a mentorship program that provides enriching programs for girls of color entering 9th and 10th grade, all stemming from helping the girls to succeed in whatever they do!
GirlsFirst works with the young women by teaching them life skills to help ensure they are equipped to become the future leaders of tomorrow! GirlsFirst operates within 6 public high schools in the Seattle area and encourages leadership, instills confidence, develops skills, and provides opportunities to girls of color.
The volunteers will work in the Technology Lab, which will offer girls of color a safe in which to explore STEM and learn about the history of women of color in the technological fields. The volunteers will assist in conducting scientific and mathematical experiments, work with our robotics team, and contribute to maintaining a safe and accepting environment.
Volunteers will be responsible for helping to facilitate group meetings, prep and execution of experiments and encouraging girls to ask questions and be involved. It is not most important that the volunteers come with excellent STEM skills, rather that the volunteers come with a positive attitude, curious mind, and ability to work on a team.
**Women of color are strongly encouraged to sign up!**
