Be The Match

The National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) is the global leader in providing marrow and umbilical cord blood transplants to patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and other diseases. The nonprofit organization matches patients with donors, educates health care professionals, and conducts research so lives can be saved. The NMDP operates Be The Match(r), the world’s largest listing of potential marrow donors and donated cord blood units. People can join Be The Match Registry(r), contribute financially and volunteer. Patients and their families can also turn to Be The Match for support and resources before, during, and after transplant.

Key responsibilities for this internship, pertaining to the Post-transplant and Financial Assistance Programs, include the following:

  • Review, edit, document, and process anonymous mail between donors and recipients
  • Resolve requests for direct contact between donors and recipients
  • Determine patient eligibility of requests for financial assistance
  • Assist with data entry of financial assistance programs
  • Develop/revise applications, polices and training documents
  • Create reports, presentations or flyers about program work
  • Seek patient stories that highlight the need for financial assistance
  • May participate in development of projects and new programs, if needed in accordance with business needs and opportunities
  • Suggest ideas/projects for program enhancement
  • Intern may be invited to assist during special events
