San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps (SGVCC) has served the cities of the San Gabriel Valley since 2003. Since that time, SGVCC has helped hundreds of transitional age youth (16 - 24) find pathways out of poverty and away from drugs and alcohol and criminal behavior by providing them with job skills training, education, and work experience with an emphasis on environmental conservation.
SGVCC is currently seeking mentors for its 16 and 17 year old population. As a mentor, you would be able to make an impactful difference on a young person’s life by providing him / her with a supportive adult relationship, helping him / her define and achieve life goals, and provide valuable insight into career and educational options. This is a great opportunity for people of all backgrounds, education level, careers, and ages 21+ to give back to a local community and those entering adulthood transition with the most success possible.
There is a minimum of 1 in-person meeting per month, yet mentors and mentees can arrange for additional meetings if requested. No experience necessary. This program will include training, and is supported throughout by a professional social worker. No driver’s license required. Must be able to pass background and reference check.
Orientation and first event with mentees to take place early-to-mid August. If interested, please respond promptly.
If interested, please contact Daniel Prescott at dprescott@sgvcorps.org or 818-939-6283. And please visit our website ( www.sgvcorps.org) for more information on our program and services.
