Benefits of the position:

The Health Outreach Volunteer provides learning professionals with an interest in social services, the opportunity to work hands on in the field and provides access to community and Catholic Charities services including preventative health care and health insurance.

CEC certificate NOT REQUIRED to volunteer

Position Summary:

The Health Outreach Volunteer conducts community outreach to increase CCSCC client and other community residents’ knowledge of health issues, promotes the importance of health insurance, assists with scheduling appointments and may even enroll clients in the Covered California health and dental insurances (Certification and training required to enroll). Year round volunteers are needed to outreach in the community to locate prospective clients for Covered California and other John XXIII Services including Older Adult and Behavioral Health Clinic

Key Responsibilities:

Satisfactory completion of required training, do presentations on health issues, schedule appointments for health insurance enrollments, provide activity reports to management., prepare outreach materials, and attend outreach events.

Skills and Abilities:

Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, as well as good listening skills with ability to assist clients

A second language such as Vietnamese, Mandarin and Spanish are a plus but not required. good listening skills and ability to assist clients

Requirements and training:

Background clearance, maintain annual TB skin test record; complete Certified Enrollment Counselor Training (for enrollers), complete Volunteer training.

Dates/Times: - Ongoing - Weekdays, some evenings and some Saturdays. Flexible hours with 8 hour weekly and 4 month commit

Minimum Age: 18
