Volunteers will be stationed at 3-4 market tables, each supplied with thousands of pounds of fresh produce that they will help distribute to eligible market-goers. Sample produce items may include bananas, onions, cabbage, or potatoes. As the market-goers stop by each table, volunteers greet them-and then weigh and bag the produce. Note: All food is distributed free of charge.
The Mobile Markets take place outdoors, rain or shine. We stress that it's important to wear comfortable, weather appropriate clothes. As this is a very hands-on activity and there is no secure place to leave your property, it is recommended that you travel light, i.e., personal belongings should be left at home/office or a messenger bag/backpack should be used. Volunteers should feel comfortable standing for long periods and handling produce.
ll volunteers should arrive promptly at 8:45am. Your promptness ensures that we will be able to start the Mobile Market on time.If you are running late, please contact the market manager (number below). The market should end around 12pm.
Be sure to plan your travel in advance, especially if you are unfamiliar with the area. Use http://www.mta.info/ or Google maps to plan your trip the night before and you can also set up your smart phone's GPS app before you leave. Check the MTA website for any service changes or delays the day of the event.

Mission Statement
City Harvest exists to end hunger in communities throughout NYC. We do this through food rescue and distribution, education and other practical, innovative solutions.
Description
City Harvest is New York City’s largest food rescue organization, helping to feed the nearly 1.2 million New Yorkers who are struggling to put meals on their tables. We will rescue more than 77 million pounds of food this year and deliver it, free of charge, to hundreds of food pantries, soup kitchens, and other community partners across the five boroughs. Our programs empower individuals through nutrition education, increase our partners’ capacity, and strengthen the local food system, helping New Yorkers who are experiencing food insecurity to access, afford, and consume nutritious food.
