Tomorrow's scientists, teachers, entrepreneurs, and leaders are getting their start today. Unfortunately, not all children begin the race of life on equal footing. We have the power to change this. Research shows that the foundation of success starts early. At Jumpstart you'll join a national network of caring adults working to close America's achievement gap before it's too late.
Jumpstart is looking for enthusiastic older adults 55 and greater to make a difference in a child's life! Foster Grandparent members often join Jumpstart directly in the communities where they live, fostering even deeper connections with the children and families they serve. Our partner preschools are located in East LA, Central/South LA, and Compton in neighborhoods such as Historic South Central, South Park, University Park, Vermont Square, Pico Union, Westlake, Echo Park, and Boyle Heights.
Benefits of Jumpstart Foster Grandparent Program
- Work with preschool children (ages 3-5) on reading, writing, and social skills
- Earn a stipend and travel reimbursement for your service
- Receive professional training in education and community leadership
- Collaborate with a team of your peers and build friendships

About Jumpstart Southern California
Location:
1625 W Olympic Blvd. Ste. 1050, Los Angeles, CA 90015, US
Mission Statement
Jumpstart is working toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed.
Description
Each year, one third of America's children arrive on their first day of school without the skills necessary to succeed at grade level. When children begin behind their peers, catching up, especially without additional assistance, is difficult and unlikely. By focusing on enriching the education of preschool students from disadvantaged communities, Jumpstart is making sure every child has a chance at success. Jumpstart is a national nonprofit dedicated to inspiring children to learn, adults to teach, families to get involved, and communities to progress together.
