About

Special Olympics Florida -Sumter County is seeking volunteers to help plan and organize Special Olympics events locally and serve as volunteer coaches.

Special Olympics Florida -Sumter County has opportunities for coaches and assistant coaches for the following sports:

Coaches are the key to a successful sports experience for the Special Olympics athlete. As a coach, you teach sports skills and model good sportsmanship and character. You give Special Olympics athletes the most immediate awareness of their self-worth, ability, courage, and capacity to grow and improve both on the playing field and off. Coaches will be provided training and sports seasons run for 2-3 months.

  • Basketball

  • Bowling

  • Bocce

  • Equestrian

  • Golf

Special Olympics Florida provides year-round sports training and athletic competitions in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. We rely on more than 21,000 volunteers throughout the state each year who serve as coaches, help with events, assist on committees and so much more.
