Accentcare Hospice Smile Squad
The Accentcare Hospice Smile Squad is a group of children who are accompanied by their parents or guardians and visit terminally ill patients in facilities within the Greater Denver area.
Our Smile Squad volunteers participate in a brief training that is structured to introduce the basic concepts of hospice care and increase their comfort level in visiting the elderly, seeing the medical equipment and spending time in facilities.
The parents or guardians of our Smile Squad volunteers are required to complete the volunteer training for direct patient care, which consists of a full-day training as well as some self-study materials. Medical and background clearance are also required. Volunteers are not allowed to medicate, lift or provide any type of personal care to patients
Visits can be completed as a pair or as part of a group. Visits can be made as often as several times a week or as little as once a month. This is an excellent opportunity to unite the generations, introduce your little ones to the elderly and bring incredible joy to another human being.
