Seeking committed individuals and married couples with a heart for serving young adults to lead group workshops once a month at one of our partner agencies in Dallas or Collin Counties. Require a minimum 12 month commitment.

The role of the program facilitator is to build relationships and lead the group workshops. Each program consists of a meal and a workshop. The meals and workshop materials are provided. Facilitators are expected to review workshop materials in advance and be prepared to lead a discussion on the scheduled topic. A hot meal is delivered to the program location on the evening of the program. Facilitators share the meal with the program participants, and use this time for relationship building. You will then facilitate the workshop itself, which is interactive and addresses topics such as Success, Personal Responsibility, Relationships, Money Management and Social Etiquette.

Some brief online data entry is required after each workshop. All necessary training is provided.

Each facilitation team is made up of 2 members, preferably 1 male and 1 female. Married couples are ideal but not required. Part of the value of the workshop is for participants to observe healthy adult relationships and healthy interaction between males and females.

What will You Get Out of It? Chances are, you are going to be exposed to new ideas and ways of being that never occurred to you. If you like to engage in personal growth, you will be growing right along with the program participants. But more importantly, there is no price you can put on the gift you give of yourself to a young person in need of a human connection. You will find that you receive a gift in return. Your heart will be warmed each and every time a jaw hits the floor with a new realization about life's possibilities, or you receive a spontaneous hug or "Thank you!" Your commitment has meaning far deeper than you know, for both you and the program participants.

Thank you for your commitment to helping young people reach their full potential!

Mission Statement

To provide holistic programs supporting the empowerment of young adults at risk of homelessness by facilitating the shift from a scarcity mindset to a belief system open to possibilities.

Description

Formed in 2010, the Lightening Alliance Community Development Corporation (LACDC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization supporting former foster teens and other at-risk young adults who are transitioning to independent living. The mission of LACDC is to "lighten the load." By partnering with agencies that provide residential services, we are able to provide unique programming intended to prevent the circumstances that too often result in homelessness, lack of education, unemployment or incarceration. Our programs are specigfically designed to fill the gaps in existing programs by addressing the "poverty of being" and feelings of worthlessness that often hinder forster and at-risk youth from pursuing self-care, personal advancement and personal relationships. We focus on emotional trauma recovery by building the relational and decision-making skills needed for successful independent living. In addition to providing one-to-one Professional Life Coaching Services, we provide GroupWorkshops which include the following elements:

  • Sharing a high-nutrition meal with the residents
  • Providng relationship building and mentoring opportunities
  • Delivering prescribed programming concepts designed to empower self-sufficiency
