English language Instructors and Assistant Instructors teach necessary English speaking, reading, and writing skills to adults barn workers at Churchill Downs. Instructors have the opportunity to teach either a beginner, intermediate, or advanced English course. Spanish Required.
Instructors will be provided with curriculum, teaching material, resources and trainings to help them teach class. Incoming volunteers will begin in the Assistant Instructor position.
SCHEDULE: English classes run Monday-Thursday from 5:30-7 pm at the Backside Learning Center (located in the stable area of Churchill Downs).
We ask that interested volunteers commit to teaching at least once a week for a complete 6 week cycle.

Description
The Backside Learning Center provides free educational services to the men and women who work with the thoroughberd horses in the barn area, or backside, of Churchill Downs and Trackside in Louisville, KY. Our programming includes English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL), technology workshops, citizenship tutoring, art class, and music class. All of our classes & tutoring depend on volunteers. Family Education Program focusing on afterschool homework assistance for equine workers' children,
Note: BLC hours are between 9:00 am-8:00 pm Monday thru Friday. Days, times and frequency of direct service will fall between these hours but will depend upon the work schedule and availability of students and volunteers.
