We need responsible & dependable volunteers. I am hoping that will be you! We are an all volunteer organization. Therefore, unlike other organizations, the volunteers are the staff. Volunteers do not supplement the staffing- they are the people who operate the place.

Whatever schedule we come up with for you- we really need you to take it seriously, and always be here for your shifts. I hope you understand- you are becoming us! If you don't show up- no one will be here to do your "work"! That will leave us in the lurch.

Our organization needs volunteers for Program Operation. One afternoon weekly is an alright commitment. We have openings for Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, & Saturday afternoons. Can that be you? Which day works for you?

TIME: the shifts are noon - 4:30 It is important to get here before the youth you will be supervising and stay a bit after the youth you will be supervising & mentoring.

Program Operation job description: this adult volunteer performs a variety of tasks including supervising and mentoring youth during her shift. This staff person makes sure youth sign-in & out, keep track of their hours, and fill out any forms needed for their time. She maintains files on youth.

Volunteer works inside & outside the building as directed by her supervisor, Executive Director. Often there will be a list of tasks & verbal directions for the day. You can go over this when you first arrive. It might include specific instructions for gardening, an art project, organizing something, or other task. It might be picking up litter, working in our garden or across the street at the peace park, building something, or in another peace park from a vacant lot.

Volunteer helps youth to accomplish tasks & works alongside them. When there are no youth, she works on tasks herself or with another volunteer. Volunteer also CONTACTS SCHOOLS & ORGANIZATIONS FOR YOUTH REFERRALS.

Volunteer writes an email to Director each day she volunteers, whether she talks to Director or not. The email is a brief informal report of how things go & what is accomplished.

The youth program goes through end of November 2016.

Please let me know your questions.
sincerely, Dianna C. Long, Director Chicago Urban Art Retreat Center
