Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas Refugee Learning Center offers English classes, cultural orientation and job readiness classes to refugees in the Kansas City Area. The center is located at CCNEK Central Office in Wyandotte County (Kansas City, KS). The purpose of the Learning Center is to enable refugees to easily access English Language instruction and other classes to assist them in transitioning to life in the United States. This internship will focus adult refugee education, and will teach English classes to recently arrived refugees.

  • Receive training and teach ELL to students from preliterate to advanced.
  • Assist Learning Center Coordinator and ELL instructor in tracking student progress
  • Follow up with clients regarding attendance and ELL progress
  • Lesson planning and classroom material creation
  • Assist in other areas as needed
