A great volunteer opportunity for anyone who loves going to the farmers’ market on weekends and helping our community eat fresh fruits and vegetables! As an Alchemist CDC Volunteer, you will help fellow Sacramentans use their CalFresh benefits (formerly known as food stamps) at the Midtown Farmers' Market.
Duties for the Farmers’ Market CalFresh/EBT Booth Volunteers include processing EBT transactions, distributing scrip, and collecting scrip from the vendors (farmers). The Volunteer shift is somewhat flexible - a two-hour late-morning shift and the full market shift. You’ll be working with an intern or staff member at the booth during the market to ensure a great experience for the CalFresh recipients and farmers.
All volunteers receive a hands-on training and we ask that you make a commitment to volunteer at four (4) market days over the first three months.
If you want to volunteer but the day or location don’t work for you, please see our other VolunteerMatch listings for other markets all week long across the Sacramento region or contact our program coordinator to learn of all volunteer opportunities!
By providing the ability to use CalFresh at these markets, Alchemisthopestomakefreshproducemoreaccessibletolow-incomeindividualsintheseareas,whilesimultaneouslyincreasingthesalesforsmall-mid sizefarmersinCalifornia. This effort is in keeping with Alchemist CDC’s vision of a vibrant, equitable and diverse Sacramento. Farmers’ markets are an asset to communities, and can lead to improved health for area residents. By making it easier for low-income populations to purchase food at farmers’ markets, implementation of CalFresh acceptance makes these community assets more equitable and accessible to all individuals.
