AHELPer volunteers in the Caregiver Support Program provide comprehensive care with both trained AHELPers and Professional Network Members, learning from one another through working together as an interdisciplinary team. AHELPers connect with families over Zoom with the Animal Hospice Team Manager to and participate in ongoing email and phone support.

Our training and mentorships offer unique opportunities to learn about the developing field of animal hospice and palliative care.

You would be a great fit as an Animal Caregiver Support AHELPer if you have also been inspired by personal experience with your own animal(s) in the end of life.

You are exceptionally well-qualified if you have any or a combination of:

  • experience in human hospice, experience in animal end-of-life,
  • talents and skills in animal services like bodywork or energy work,
  • talents and skills in family services like counseling and social work.

With tools, training, and a compassionate heart, our community of AHELPers understand what caregivers are going through at this bittersweet time. Make a difference for caregivers and their animal family members! Please reach out to learn more about how you can become an AHELPer today!

Mission Statement

Our mission is to empower pet parents and practitioners through education, help, and hope in the end-of-life journey for animals.

Description

Caregivers of companion animals are seeking quality-of-life options when their beloved animal family members are living with serious illness or the special caregiving needs that can come with, or near, the end of life. The Animal Hospice Group (AHG) is a collaborative organization of animal hospice and palliative care practitioners dedicated to instilling confidence and developing competency to provide animal caregivers with the knowledge to best support animals during this beautiful yet bittersweet time. Our community knows that people want the same gentle, dignified decline for their animal family members that their human loved ones experienced through hospice care, and we know they can achieve these goals through animal hospice and palliative care. Two AHG programs provide hope and help for pets and their people: 1) the Animal Hospice Practitioner Certification, an online advanced education curriculum, and internship and 2) the Animal Hospice Helpline to support pet parents and companion animal care professionals. We can build awareness of the field and serve more families with the help of people like you - please join the AHG! AHG Founder Michelle Nichols also founded the Animal Hospice, End of Life, and Palliative Care Project. The AHG is fiscally supported by BrightHaven Inc, a 501c(3) nonprofit registered in California.
