BW 2016

The Silicon Valley Down Syndrome Network (SVDSN) is a community of families with family members with Down syndrome. We are completely volunteer-run and rely on fundraising efforts to support our activities and programs.
Then National Down Syndrome Soceity Buddy Walk is an international event to raise awareness and acceptance of individuals with Down syndrome and serves as our largest annual fundraiser.
2016 is the 12th annual Bay Area Buddy Walk and we need your help!
It takes a lot of work to put on an event of this magnitude, and it takes an awesome team of volunteers!
We are looking for mature volunteers to come help with a day of fun. Thank you for your consideration!

Here are some FAQ's that give more information:

What duties will volunteers need to perform?
- Volunteer duties: Volunteers will be assigned to one of the following jobs: Running booths for food, entertainment, Registration, Parking Crew, Opportunity drawing, or set-up or clean-up of the event.

Are there any special qualifications needed?
No special qualifications are needed. We ask that volunteers behave in a mature manner; staying off of cell phones and tending to their assigned duties.

Do students need to have parents sign a release form for your event?
Yes, all students under 18 must print, and have a parent sign a waiver on-site when they check-in on the day of the event. I will give them website info when they contact me.

What would you like volunteers to wear - are there any special considerations based on their duties?
Volunteers should wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing. When they officially register to volunteer online, they will give a shirt size and they will get the shirt to wear for the day (and keep) upon check-in at the volunteer table the morning of the event.

How many volunteers do you need?
Our goal is to get 150 volunteers total that are able to ideally work the whole event (6 hours).

Description

The Silicon Valley Down Syndrome Network (SVDSN) is a group of families with children born with Down syndrome. We come from all walks of life, and our common goal is to provide a community of support for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

All of SVDSN's events and activities are organized by volunteers from the group. The group has monthly family dinners and organizes the Bay Area Buddy Walk every October. Buddy Walk funds support the group's programs and events throughout the year. These events include family outings and sporting events, outreach to show our support for the local research community, and speakers for family education. The coming year promises even more fun with tween/teen dances and activities, "Art and Music Mornings" for the younger set, and added educational activities for families. We will also focus on a larger outreach effort to support families when they first receive diagnosis.
