TEEN ADVOCATE BOARD

ORGANIZATION: DEL NORTE READS

I am seeking Teens involved or Teens wanting to get involved in a Leadership Opportunity with the Del Nort County Public Library. We could use a Teen Board to help the library make decisions on what direction they would like us to take in catering to Teens. This could be a once a month meeting at the Library with the Library Manager. It would be a real board with officers and someone willing to attend Library Board Meeting's once a month. This would be great to put on a College Scholarship Application. Meetings will follow the Brown Act and be run by Roberts Rules and Order. So you would gain great experience by joining.

Please email me at Teena@delnortecountylibrary.org, or stop by the library and ask to speak with Teena. Thanks

About DEL NORTE READS

Location:

1080 MASON MALL #9, Crescent City, CA 95531, US

Mission Statement

Del Norte Reads is a grant funded program that works in conjunction with the Del Norte County Library District to provide free literacy services to community members. We proudly provide FREE assistance with reading, writing, math, computer literacy, high school equivalency and much more. Learners are paired with caring tutors who provide individualized instruction with all aspects of functional literacy. We do this because we believe education is the most deterministic factor in well-being.

Description

In 1988, Del Norte County was awarded funding through the California library services act. From 1988 to 2004 the literacy program went through several iterations, ranging from inhouse to mobile literacy services and even outsourcing to different organizations. Today, the name of this program is Del Norte Reads. We are the only literacy program in Del Norte that offers customized one-to-one or small group learning for adults and families. All of our services are free to our learners. We are looking for compassionate volunteers to engage our hard working learners. An hour a week can change someone's life. So if you have a desire to make a meaningful difference in our community, please consider becoming a volunteer at Del Norte Reads!
