Washington, DC, and the Challenge of Ward 7
It's the governmental hub of our great country with imposing monuments, impressive architecture, fascinating museums, and a unique local culture. There's a lot to see in Washington, DC, however, it is also a struggling area. Washington, DC, is separated into eight sections, or Wards. Our initiative is focusing on Ward 7 because Ward 7 is full of beautiful parks and streams that are overrun by garbage. The cleanup initiative recognizes that Ward 7 is ripe with potential and promise for the future even though it is often neglected and overlooked,
Who We Are and Our Vision
My name is Mark Bey. I am a resident of Ward 7 and one of the volunteers of the Cleaner Ward 7 initiative. Together with my growing team of dynamic, community-minded volunteers I aim to assemble a committed, enthusiastic media team to combat the growing problem of litter in Ward 7, Washington, DC. The organization’s vision is to improve the environment in Ward 7 from the grassroots up.
Cleanup Dude and Our Media Team
We are currently developing an innovative and exciting new YouTube series based on a charismatic fictional character named 'Cleanup Dude.’ He will be our mascot and spokesperson for the cleanup efforts, and he will head a YouTube series titled The Legend of Marvin Gaye Park-Cleanup Dude to the Rescue!
Why Cleanup Dude?
The story of Cleanup Dude started when I discovered an action figure discarded in Marvin Gaye Park as I was collecting litter in the beginning of 2016. Finding the figure inspired me to create a strong, visual mascot for the great work we are doing and will continue to do in the future.
