Do you have experience planning fundraisers and events that you would like to put to good use? Are you interested in working with an organization that helps bright, motivated high school students from underserved families achieve their dream of a college education?

Minds Matter of Los Angeles is looking for a Director of Events and Extracurricular Activities. This role works closely with the Program Directors, Co Directors of Mentors, and Co Director of Mentees to decide on the extra curricular activities for the year (student field trips, student only fun activities, and mentor only events). In addition, this role would be the point person for the Spring Fundraising Benefit, our main fundraiser. Other activities this role will own are the beginning of the year picnic in October and the Seniors’ graduation ceremony in May.

The role is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the activity - for field trips with students, this would include creating the permission slips, handling any entrance fees or tasks, arranging for transportation, etc. For mentor only events, it would include determining the type of event (get together after a Saturday session, arranging for a guest speaker, etc) and then the execution/coordination in partnership with the team leads/Co Directors of Mentors. At a minimum, this role will own the set up/overall coordination and execution of the picnic at the beginning of the year and the graduation ceremony for the seniors. The role may also interact with parents of students to see if/how they may want to be involved with the program, perhaps as chaperones for special events.

Event planning experience would be a wonderful asset for this role. This role will work independently from regular Saturday sessions, though attendance at a Saturday session at least once a month is required.

To apply, please complete our volunteer questionnaire located at https://www.tfaforms.com/310839 so we can learn a little more about you or visit our website at www.mindsmatterla.org.
