Jovenes Youth

Purpose and Impact: TheComputer Literacy Coach will help Jovenes, Inc. with their mission of empowering youth experiencing homelessness. This individual will do this by providing Jovenes clients with valuable computer lessons and skills. This individual will show youth how to access and use fundamental computer applications. They will develop guides and organize activities that improve computer skills.

Activities, Tasks, and Responsibilities:

This volunteer will:

  • Work with Jovenes youth on improving their computer skills
  • Organize engaging and appealing activities that increase computer literacy
  • Develop guides and presentations that appeal and engage
  • Track and report youth participation

Required Skills: Great written and oral communication great motivator, and excellent listening skills.


Preferred Skills: Experience with most computer applications. BA or student in Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related disciplines. Bilingual - English and Spanish.

Volunteer Benefits: This position offers the volunteer a multitude of professional development opportunities, including experience working with people, building their resume, and expanding personal and professional networks. Upon completion of the volunteer service a certificate will be presented.

At Jovenes, which means youth in Spanish, we help homeless youth ages 18-25 leave homelessness behind. A home and family for those without, Jovenes provides an innovative program of stable housing options, compassionate care, life skills training, and employment support to young adults seeking a path to life change. Our mission is to help homeless and at-risk youth become productive and integrated members of our community. Jovenes goes deep with each youth we serve, focusing on housing stability, education and employment, access to healthcare and benefits, and recovery from childhood trauma. We empower those we serve so they can develop healthy relationships and make meaningful contributions to the community we share.

Description

Jovenes, Inc. helps youth ages 18 - 25. We provide an innovative program of
stable housing options, compassionate care, life skills training, and employment support to young
adults seeking a path to life change. As a hands-on leader and innovator focused on permanent
solutions to end the cycle of homelessness, Jovenes continues to grow through construction and
renovation of existing homes in the neighborhoods we serve. Our housing model includes
supportive short term and permanent housing designed to create a home-like atmosphere for those
we serve. Our programs are designed to take youth off the streets and move them into their own
apartments as they develop healthy living skills, increase their income, go back to school, and
identify career pathways. We have found that once youth have a steady roof over their head and a
connection to a support structure of caring individuals, they are able to continue their development
into self-sufficient adults. Our campus is located in Boyle Heights, a low-income neighborhood in
Los Angeles. We are the only organization in our community that provides this level of services
and programs for homeless youth.
