ORGANIZATION: MCD Public Health

AmeriCorps Maine

AmeriCorps Somerset County is a volunteer program dedicated to improving the health and well-being of low-income seniors and adults. Members work with non-profit organizations conducting outreach in rural communities to provide health education and link people with health and social resources. We focus on increasing access to primary care, food support services, and volunteer opportunities. Members may also train to facilitate group health education classes. Members commit to at least 450 hours of service.

Qualifications: * Self-motivated with a high degree of flexibility. * Clear, concise oral and written communication. * Ability to manage time, set priorities, plan & implement projects effectively. * Be willing to have a full FBI and SBI background check as well as a National Sex Offender Search check. * Be at least 18 years of age at the time of enrollment. * Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident. * Have a high school diploma or high school equivalency (requirement waived if currently enrolled in high school).

Essential Functions include the ability to: * Quickly establish rapport and develop trusting one-on-one service relationships. * Work independently as well as part of a team. * Ability to use computers and tablets, basic word processing skills * Be able to serve consistently and reliably. * Abide by all AmeriCorps service rules and service provisions.

Benefits and Terms: * A taxable living allowance of $3,132 for a year of service * Upon successful completion of a term of service, eligible members receive an education award of an amount up to $1,538. The education award can be used to repay qualified student loans or for further education in an accredited institution of higher learning, vocational or trade school. Members who are aged 55+ at the time of service may gift their education award to a child or grandchild. The education award is taxable in the year that it is used. * Loan forbearance. (After successful completion of a term of service, AmeriCorps may pay a portion or all of the accrued interest on qualified loans, which is taxable.) * Mileage reimbursement for travel between program sites, meetings and/or assignments. * Professional development, trainings and networking opportunities.

This project is sponsored by the Maine Commission for Community Service (MCCS). MCCS builds capacity and sustainability in Maine's volunteer and service communities. Funding for the AmeriCorps Somerset County Program is provided by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).

Our work includes program and policy development, implementation, evaluation, and training/technical assistance in the following areas: Preventing Disease and Promoting Healthy Behaviors, Improving Healthcare Quality and Access, Fostering Collaboration Among People and Organizations.

MCD Public Health provides consulting and contract services to organizations in both the public and private sectors. Our diverse clients include hospitals and health departments, state agencies, tribal and non-profit organizations, as well as for-profit businesses.We work closely with clients to identify their needs and priorities, develop a customized plan of services and deliverables, and select the appropriate staff from our experienced team of MCD Public Health trainers and consultants.
