The Portland Tabernacle's is searching for individuals who are passionate about helping under privileged students get the chance to get involved in extra-curricular activities, and to receive the help and attention needed to help them succeed in school.
Our new after-school program will take place during the 2016-2017 school year, and will be on Wednesdays from 2:00pm-7:00pm, and will include grades 1-8.
Our volunteers will participate in one or more of these responsibilities: tutor and assist students with homework assignments, supervise and assist with recreational activities such as outdoor sports, crafts and indoor games, lead or assist a Salvation Army Troop Program, lead or assist a Salvation Army Band Program, and/or meal preparation.
The presence of volunteers will help maintain a low student to leader ratio for safety, and allow leaders to dedicate special time and attention to each student.

Mission Statement
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Description
Originally named the Portland Citadel, The Salvation Army Portland Tabernacle has been a part of Portland since 1888, almost as long as The Salvation Army has had a presence in Portland. First located downtown at the current US Bank Building site, Portland Tabernacle moved to its current location at 1712 NE Sandy Blvd in 2008.
Our ministry is extensive. Our Church offers weekly Bible study small groups, recovery ministry Bible study, youth activities, scouting programs for boys and girls, activities for adults and music instruction for youth and adults. Seasonal activities include summer camp, sailing course and various community services. Our Family Services Office offers food, holiday gift baskets, school supplies and energy assistance. The Rose Center for Seniors is a community center for seniors that offers meals, activities, trips, and fellowship.
We are a Church whose members are actively engaged in meeting the spiritual and physical needs of our neighbors. It is the Gospel message of love and forgiveness and the power of God’s Spirit in us that drives our actions. We truly believe the Lord loves you and has a plan for you that will move you from an inward focus to a view that allows you to see yourself and this world the way our Lord sees it.
We hope to see you soon at one of our ministry opportunities.
