All rescued cats and dogs at Desert Paws NM are placed in temporary foster homes while they await adoption. This enables them to live in a calm, loving home, rather than a cold stressfull shelter while they await their forever homes. We are growig fast and rescuing more and more homeless and neglected dogs and cats everyday. Desert Paws is looking for Foster Heroes who can provide temporary homes for these wonderful rescues. We are currently accepting applications for new foster homes for homeless dogs and cats in the Albuqueruque and Santa Fe areas in NM. Foster families would be responsible for providing a safe and loving home for dogs and cats awaiting adoption. Crates, food, beds, etc. can be provided by Desert Paws so fostering is of no financial cost to the foster families. Fostering is similar to dog or cat sitting for a neighbor or friend. You're simply watching the animal until the owners arrive. Once the animal in your care is adopted you can begin fostering another one right away or take a short break before recieving another.

If you have never owned pets but you love animals and want to help we can provide training. We have a network of fosters who can also provide tips and assistance.

What else is involved? We love for our foster families to provide pictures and updates as often as possible so staying in touch is important. If you already have pets just let us know what their temperaments are so we can place the right animal in your care. Unwanted, neglected, and abused animals that are rescued have a much better chance of being adopted permanently than animals who are kept in shelters and kennels. Dogs & cats in shelters experience fear and confusion, and become unsocialized. Animals that are fostered experience love, compassion, and training, making them better candidates for adoption. You can help with this process by providing a temporary foster home for our rescues.
