Homeless Patient Outreach Program at OPCC

Working in conjunction with Ocean Park Community Center (OPCC), VFC’s Homeless Patient Outreach program provides homeless individuals with access to quality, compassionate health care services.

We are looking for volunteers that are passionate about working to help our local homeless community by improving their health and well-being!

OPCC Access Center

This volunteer opportunity takes place at the OPCC Access Center, which is home to the OPCC's street outreach teams that engage homeless individuals on the streets, in parks and in other public spaces. The Access Center provides a full range of essential services onsite, including meals, clothing, mail and phone service, case management, mental health counseling, benefits assistance, and medical care in the Center's medical suite.

Administrative Support Role

The HP Outreach Administrative Volunteer role supports our onsite VFC Staff Coordinator with various administrative tasks.

Administrative tasks include:

  • Pull and file patient charts
  • Assist patients to complete registration and health insurance paperwork
  • Assist with patient flow, including patient intake and discharge

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working with homeless patient population
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

Ideally, we would like to schedule a volunteer in this role who has a specific interest in and/or experience working with the Homeless Patient population. The patients that you will encounter at OPCC are all homeless, and many of them experience behavioral health concerns. We’d like to make sure that you will be confident and comfortable with the varying pace of the clinic, and the unique patient demographic.

Please note - Once we’ve set your schedule, we will plan to schedule a 1-month check in to determine if the role is a good fit for you, and for the care team at OPCC.

About Venice Family Clinic

Location:

2509 Pico Blvd, Venice, CA 90291, US

Mission Statement

To provide quality primary health care to people in need.

Description

Over the past 50 years, Venice Family Clinic’s mission of providing quality primary health care to people in need hasn’t changed, but its scope has broadened dramatically. Today, the Clinic has about 400 staff members and more than 1,300 volunteers who serve 28,000 patients, without regard for their ability to pay or immigration status. Its programs have expanded beyond primary medical care to include dental, vision, behavioral health, exercise classes, health education, early childhood development - and street medicine for people experiencing homelessness, to ensure even the most vulnerable of its neighbors get the medical care they deserve.

Our Volunteer Services Department strives to recruit and connect the best volunteers possible with almost every department within the clinic. We work to provide support to the volunteers as well as the clinic teams whom they help. Every year, we work with over 1400 volunteers, including approximately 500 provider volunteers. Our department helps with recruiting, training, scheduling, and general upkeep of all volunteers.
