The New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) is a leader in the delivery of comprehensive, free, quality legal services in civil matters to low-income and vulnerable populations in New York. Our comprehensive range of services includes direct representation, case consultation, advocacy, community education, training, financial counseling, and impact litigation. Position Description:
This is a great opportunity for individuals looking into non-profit community work and gaining exposure to the intricacies of financial counseling and economics! The Financial Counseling Division seeks a Financial Counseling Volunteer to assist with client follow-up and credit pulls.
This volunteer project would entail:
Helping to pull credit reports and informing financial counselors of update
Maintaining the database for the credit pulls
Editing our Financial Counseling Toolkit as needed
Helping with other administrative and data entry based projects

Qualifications:
Passion for our mission to help low-income New Yorkers
Basic Excel and computer skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Education or experience in Economics or Finance is a plus
Must maintain organization confidentiality
Commitment:
Flexible scheduling available: 1-2 days a week - 2-4 hours
Time frame: 1 - 3 months with the possibility for longer

Description
NYLAG serves immigrants, seniors, the homebound, families facing foreclosure, renters facing eviction, low-income consumers, those in need of government assistance, children in need of special education, domestic violence victims, persons with disabilities, patients with chronic illness or disease, low-wage workers, low-income members of the LGBT community, Holocaust survivors, and others in need of free legal services.
