Rhawnhurst Turning Point
Youth and volunteers from our 2016 end of year party.

We are in need of additional adult volunteers to help with our Christian Weekend Program at Rhawnhurst Turning Point!

Weekend Program Activities happen year round, usually on Saturday Afternoons from 1-4pm, though times and dates may change for special events or activities. The Weekend Program is a chance for 6-12th grade youth to have something positive, engaging and fun to do during the weekend hours. Events vary and may include movie days, Bible studies, game afternoon, and field trips, but the core of our Weekend Program are Service Saturdays, where we partner with other non-profits in the area to educate youth on issues of justice and need in their community and give them the opportunity to make a difference.

We are looking for adult volunteers to help with chaperoning, mentoring, supervising and working along side youth during our Weekend Programs. Volunteers would work with our Weekend Program Manager Andrew Smith and can volunteer on a regular basis, once a month or occasionally as their schedule permits.

Mission Statement

The mission of Rhawnhurst Turning Point is to provide a center for 6-12th grade youth where they can learn, grow, serve and have fun in a safe environment, supported by caring volunteers and Christian staff.

Description

Rhawnhurst Turning Point is a community non-profit that serves 6-12 th grade youth to help them grow in every aspect of their lives: academically, artistically, relationally, socially and spiritually.

To do this we offer Homework Help and Drop-In times Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-9 pm, small group art classes in the evenings during the school year, a weekend program that includes times of fellowship, fun, learning, and service projects allowing youth to make a difference in their community through service, and much more.

All of our programs are offered completely free of charge to all 6-12 th grade youth without discrimination.

Rhawnhurst Turning Point began out of a joint idea and mission venture between Redemption Lutheran and Rhawnhurst Presbyterian Churches in Northeast Philadelphia in 2007. After much research and planning, we opened as a separate 501c3 non-profit in a storefront in our community on October 25, 2011. Since then, we have worked with almost 250 who have visited our center over 5,500 times. We have a group of amazing volunteers that work with our youth, building relationships, helping with homework, teaching art classes, paying games, watching movies, serving side by side, and simply providing healthy relationships with caring adults that will encourage and strengthen the youth whom we serve.
